I made it my goal to finish at least 30 books this 2016. So far, I’m on track and you could probably tell that by how much I mention books on my My Favorite Things and Monthly Recap entries.
For this post, I thought I’d do my second Book Tag just because I’m in a reading mood once again. No one has tagged me or anything; just thought it would be fun. You can find my first Book Tag here.
This time I’ll be tackling some books in my ever growing To-Be-Read pile.
1. A book on your TBR pile that you haven’t finished
The Red Pyramid (The Kane Chronicles #1) by Rick Riordan
I’m a fan of Rick Riordan’s The Heroes of Olympus series and to some degree like the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series as well, so I was interested in picking this up. However, when I read this book around 1-2 years ago, I didn’t finish it. I’m still racking my brain as to why, but it overall just didn’t interest me. I wasn’t invested in the characters and I lost the will to continue with it. It’s dull in comparison to the other Rick Riordan books I’ve read.
I added this book to this list because I may end up picking it up one day. Not anytime soon, but one day.
2. A book you just haven’t had the time to read
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I heard only amazing things about this book. Everyone who has read it seems to have loved it! And personally, I’m intrigued with the premise. To some degree it reminds me of Summer Wars and Scott Pilgrim vs The World, two movies I love. Ready Player One seems like something up my alley but I’ve yet to read it because I want to be in the right mood for it. I also want a lot of time so I can savor every part of the story.
3. A book you haven’t read because it’s a sequel
P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
I read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, the first book in this series but the story felt shallow to me. I just wasn’t in the right mood for stories like that at the time. But I heard this second book is better and I still am curious about what new escapades Lara Jean gets into. And because of that, I really do want to continue with this series. I just feel I need to be in the right mood for it first.
I however, do want to get this book over with since I don’t want to be left hanging. I heard there’s a third book coming!
4. A book you haven’t read because it’s brand new
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
This book is relatively new having just been released this March 2016. I honestly don’t know too much about the story- I’m going in blind, and my main reason for wanting to read it are the rave reviews. Also, I find it interesting that this is a debut novel.
5. A book by and author you read previously but didn’t really like
Everybody Sees The Ants by A.S. King
Last year, I read A.S. King’s Reality Boy but I never finished it. I only had a few chapters left and I was literally pushing myself to get through it. One day, I just felt I couldn’t. The book was so depressing and it was only making me feel negative.
Because of that, I’m now kind of iffy to pick up A.S. King’s other works. But BookTuber Ariel Bissett speaks highly of Everybody Sees The Ants that I want to give in and find out what all the fuss is about.
6. A book on your TBR pile that you’re just not in the mood to read
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
I was in a sci-fi/fantasy mood when I got this ebook and it helped that the cover was pretty too. Now I’m just not feeling it. Every time I get a chance to read it, I always skip over and reach for the next book. Perhaps it’s also due to the fact that this book got mixed reviews.
But I swear, I will make it a point to read this before this year ends!
7. A book on your TBR pile that you haven’t read because it’s enormous
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I don’t know if this counts as big as I’ve read bigger books than this. However, I still find the size intimidating because I haven’t really been in the mood to read large books. I’ve noticed they have a tendency to put me in a reading slump.
I adored Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices series (The Mortal Instruments was so-so) so I’m looking forward to getting back into the Shadowhunter world with this book!
8. A book on your TBR you got because of the cover
Wink Poppy Midnight by Jennifer Tucholke
This book has a gorgeous cover! The moment I saw it, I knew I just had to get it. I only have the Ebook but if I find the story nice enough, I may just have to get a Paperback to display on my shelf. The summary also reminds me of We Were Liars, a book I loooooved to bits.
9. The book on your TBR you find the most intimidating
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
This book sparked my curiosity because it is a favorite of many Booktubers. I really want to pick this up and see what all the fuss is about, but I’m intimidated by it. It’s a massive book and it’s an adult historical fantasy, a genre in an age group I’ve yet to immerse myself in. Personally, I’m more into realistic books that tackle psychological stuff and inner conflicts. I’m really not a fantasy reader but I am open to exploring other genres.
Have you read any of these books? Please let me know in the comments! Also, I’d love to see what books you’re interested in reading at the moment. Consider yourself TAGGED.
