To start the month, let’s look back at some of My Favorite Things from the month that flew by so quickly: May 2015.
Girl Meets World Season 2
Five episodes have aired so far (plus one bonus one from Season 1) and so far I can tell Season 2 seems to be a major improvement from Season 1. Also, can I just say: I’m very happy Will Friedle is back as Eric Matthews! I’m looking forward to hopefully more Boy Meets World cast cameos in Season 2.
(Dear Readers, were any of you guys into Boy Meets World growing up?)
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
This book is literally everywhere! Since I loved Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, I thought I’d give this book a try. Now that I’ve read it, I can say it’s one of my favorite books ever. It has an interesting take on young love, dysfunctional families, and growing up that’s very very different from other YA books. For one thing, it’s not like those sugar-coated junk you’d normally find in the said genre. And it isn’t forced. The story and the way it’s written is very raw. You’ll be sucked into the story and transported to the generation of mixtapes, New Wave, comic books, and punk rock (the 80s, if you haven’t figured that out yet).
If you have a chance to purchase this book, do so as soon as you can! If you’re an adult, I recommend it even more that you give this a go. It will make you nostalgic to the bone.
(Okay, so she’s not a thing but I’ve been listening to her a lot lately so…) American Idol is one of my guilty pleasures. And this season, they changed a bit of their usual format by picking very talented and uber-quirky yet charismatic, singers. One of those standouts and also my favorite this season is JAX.
She’s the resident punk-pop rocker in the show. Below is a good sample of her rocker chick side:
JAX has this charisma and excellent stage presence- it’s clear she was born to be onstage! At the same time, she’s very humble and extremely down-to-earth (you should see her Taco Bell tweets). She’s basically edgier, rocker girl version of Taylor Swift.
And she’s awesome in slow songs too! Here is a good example of JAX’s soft side.
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick
Written by the same man behind The Silver Linings Playbook, comes another realistic psychological read. This page-turner is of the most beautiful, powerful things I’ve read and the mix of both emotion and humor was perfect. The story is about an 18-year old’s attempt at murder and then suicide (including a lot of introspective thoughts), but I urge you to still give it a read- it’s probably not how you expect it to be.
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
My siblings and I used to play this 2007 game a lot back then. Now that we found a copy for our XBOX 360, we knew we had to purchase it right away. As a huge Star Wars and LEGO fan, I’d say it’s one of my favorite games of all time. Too adorable for words!
The LEGO Store
Speaking of LEGO… A new LEGO store opened near my area! It’s a big deal because this is the first and only official store in Manila at the moment. They offer a lot more LEGO merchandise than what they sell around here, as well as exclusives that aren’t available in regular stores.
