Timeless Thoughts: Top 10 Non-Disney Songs

I know most of us grew up with Disney. I sure did; the Disney Renaissance was a great time to be a kid. But we can’t ignore how because of Disney’s rise, there were other animated studios spawning movies of their own. And they had some good songs too.

In this Timeless Thoughts entry, I’ll be talking about my favorite songs featuring some of those non-Disney movies I remember watching as a kid.

The list is only limited to movies of the following criteria: must be animated, must be a non-Disney movie to have been released during Disney’s Renaissance Period, and the song/s must come from a movie I watched as a child.

Timeless Thoughts: Crash Bandicoot

My brother and I were talking about our favorite Play Station 1 games recently so I thought I’d mention one of them in this month’s Timeless Thoughts entry. I’m not a gamer so it’s not common for me to bring up a game and dedicate an entire blog post to it. That’s how memorable this game was for me.

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Did anyone else play that game growing up? It was my favorite among the three Crash Bandicoot games. I would loooovvee to play it again but since our PS1 is no longer in tip-top shape, the only access I have at the moment is by watching gameplays on YouTube.

Here’s what it’s about: The game involves Crash Bandicoot racing across time by going through different levels- shown as mini games (plus little Bonus levels in between) that you need to complete at different locations. Once you complete the number of levels needed in that specific location, you end up fighting the assigned boss for that place. The game ends once you complete all the locations and defeat all the bosses.

And yeah, that’s pretty much what I recall.

Timeless Thoughts: American Idol

The American Idol Season 15 finale and supposed last-ever episode aired last week so I thought I’d talk about it for this month’s Timeless Thoughts. It made me quite emotional because I’ve been watching this show since I was in elementary school. It will feel strange not looking forward to a new season next January.

Though I wasn’t a completely loyal fan having missed a few seasons, I still got to experience the show in its peak. I was a constant visitor at VoteForTheWorst.com during its strongest years, was familiar with some fan terms and the whole WGWG thing when it started, and even managed to put up a fansite to support my favorite contestant: David Archuleta.

The show used to be such a staple in my household. We would gather as a family to watch. Yes, it would get suuuupper cheesy at times but that’s part of the fun of it!

I still remember being in elementary school and freaking out when I saw Jasmine Trias in a mall show. Though, not in person as my mom and I had to leave before her show started! That was the first of many memories to come from this show.

Timeless Thoughts: LaserDiscs

I’m back after having missed two entries worth of Timeless Thoughts. Boy have I missed doing these kinds of posts! Reminiscing old times is always a fun thing.

Does anyone remember LaserDiscs?

You know, those big things that look like giant DVDs. They’re so big that sometimes you have to use two hands to flip it in the player- “flip” because a movie often uses two sides of the disc.

Timeless Thoughts: Santa Claus

For Timeless Thoughts this month, I thought I’d focus on something Christmas-related. Here goes:

I have a confession: I never believed in Santa Claus. Ever.

My parents are realistic people. From the start they wanted us kids to already be familiar with the difference between what was real and what was fantasy. By age 5, I was already knew those characters in Disneyland were people in costumes. By age 6, I already knew babies came from mommies- not storks. And for as long as I could remember, I already knew Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy didn’t exist (though I did still leave any loose baby teeth under my pillow because I knew my parents would leave me money).
