I attended my first ToyCon last Saturday, June 20, 2015. Unfortunately, my brother and I went during the wrong day and at the wrong time (Saturday afternoon? BAD idea). The convention area was huge-bigger than the other cons I’ve been to but it was still overcrowded. Because of the crowds, the whole venue was super hot and full of sweaty cosplayers squeezing in between others to get to the booths. (But thankfully, the crowds lessened by the end of the day)
Even if I did still enjoy myself, I found it hard to take photos and browse the booths without bumping people by accident along the way. Because of such, I only have a very limited number of photos to share (no arm room).
I wanted a photo with the huge Hulkbuster, but it was too crowded. Oh well… It was at least nice to see it from afar.
The super cool peeps of the 501st had a mini booth.
I did a casual cosplay of Jubilee! All the clothes I used came straight from my closet.
My brother, meanwhile, went as Darth Maul. It was his first time to wear some sort of costume in public so he was very shy about it at first. But by the end of the day, he ended up being very happy because two people asked for a photo with him.
There were so many good cosplayers during the event but they were all mostly chilling outside the event area so I didn’t get to take any photos of them.
Also, fortunately, the crowds lessened by night time so my brother and I got to explore the booths more. However though, I wasn’t able to pick up much stuff because of my limited budget- I still have some pending online orders + most of the toys/figures I want to get have not been released yet (but will be released in the next few months) so I choose to prioritize those.
Here is what I ended up buying:
For a Toy-centered convention, I know it’s weird that I only ended up getting one toy (which I will be doing a review of very soon). I did want to get some more Monster High and Ever After High dolls to add to my mini collection, but I couldn’t score any good deals. Same goes with those loads of Funko Pops they had for sale. I guess I’ll have to wait till Christmas ToyCon this December to purchase some of those.
1. Do you attend cons?
2. Have you ever attended an overcrowded one?
